The story

Texas Book Festival in Austin

Texas Book Festival is a free two-day literary festival held on the grounds around the Texas State Capitol each fall, founded in 1995 by then-First Lady Laura Bush. It brings 250 to 330 authors to Austin for panels, readings, and signings across adult, young-adult, and children's programming, drawing more than 45,000 attendees.

Its statewide literary role and Capitol-area setting make it a strong Eventisimus row.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few book festivals can claim a sitting First Lady as a founder, and Texas Book Festival has leveraged that origin into one of the largest free literary gatherings in the country, hosted on the lawns around the state capitol rather than in a convention hall

02

The mystery stays covered

Beyond the two public days, the festival runs a First Edition Literary Gala fundraiser and has directed millions of dollars in grants to Texas public libraries and donated books to well over a hundred thousand students in Title I schools

03

The city starts moving

Its expanding Spanish-language programming, added in 2023, reflects a deliberate push to serve Texas's bilingual readership rather than treat it as an afterthought
