Jaialdi in Boise

Jaialdi is Boise's celebration of Basque heritage, held once every five years on the city's Basque Block and at Expo Idaho. Founded in 1987 and repeated for Idaho's 1990 centennial, it grew into the largest Basque festival in the United States, drawing tens of thousands for traditional dance, rural sports, Basque food, and a street party through downtown.

Boise holds one of the largest Basque communities outside the Basque Country itself, the legacy of sheepherders who emigrated from the Pyrenees starting in the late 1800s and settled around what is now the city's Basque Block.
