Boston Caribbean Carnival in Boston

Boston Caribbean Carnival is an annual Caribbean cultural celebration organized by the Caribbean American Carnival Association of Boston, running since the early 1970s. Each August, a pre-dawn Jouvert parade at Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue leads into a main Carnival Day parade that runs from Martin Luther King Boulevard in Roxbury, along Warren Street through Grove Hall, and ends at Franklin Park in Dorchester, featuring elaborate costumes, steelpan music, calypso, and soca.

In the early 1970s, members of Boston's growing Caribbean immigrant community, drawing especially on Trinidadian, Jamaican, Guyanese, and Barbadian traditions, began organizing a carnival of their own in Roxbury, modeled on the pre-Lenten carnivals of the Caribbean but rescheduled for the New England summer.
