Cambridge River Festival in Cambridge
The Cambridge River Festival is Cambridge, Massachusetts's flagship free outdoor arts festival, produced by Cambridge Arts (the city's arts council) every June since 1974 along the Charles River. The one-day event combines multiple stages of live music, dance, and poetry with an international food bazaar, a local artisan market, hands-on art-making activities, and the whimsical costumed Mermaid Promenade parade, drawing crowds along Memorial Drive or, in some years, Central Square.
The Cambridge River Festival began in 1974, when a group of local artists set out to create an annual event that would showcase Cambridge's arts community along the banks of the Charles River.
