Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival is a weeks-long Independence Day celebration culminating around July 4th, built around a parade, concerts, and one of Iowa's largest fireworks displays over the Cedar River. Started in 1984 by Peter Teahen with the Veterans Council, it now spans dozens of affiliated events across Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha each summer.

Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival began in 1984, when local resident Peter Teahen, inspired by a small Independence Day event he had attended in nearby Fairfax, Iowa, organized a modest gathering with the Cedar Rapids Veterans Council that drew about 5,000 people.
