Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville
The Virginia Film Festival is an annual four-day film festival run by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, held each fall in late October or early November. Created in 1988 as the Virginia Festival of American Film, it screens features, documentaries, and shorts alongside filmmaker discussions at venues including the historic Paramount Theater and university facilities.
The festival was created in October 1988 as the Virginia Festival of American Film, endorsed by the state's Department of Economic Development and adopted by the University of Virginia, with a dual goal of stimulating film production and tourism in Virginia while connecting the American film industry's creative culture to a major research university.
