The story

Territory Days in Colorado Springs

Territory Days is a three-day street festival held every Memorial Day weekend in Old Colorado City, a historic district of Colorado Springs. Founded in 1976 to celebrate the neighborhood's frontier-era heritage, it closes four blocks of Colorado Avenue for craft booths, live bands, and reenactments of the town's 1859 mining-camp origins.

Before there was a Colorado Springs, there was Colorado City, a rough mining-supply town founded in 1859 at the base of Pikes Peak that briefly served as the Colorado Territory's first capital before being absorbed by its more genteel neighbor decades later.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival packs a four-block stretch of Colorado Avenue between 23rd and 27th streets with more than 180 food and craft booths and over 30 bands, but its defining features lean into 1859-era Colorado City history: gold panning, a mechanical bull, a Cowboy Church service, toy train rides, period-costumed reenactors, live birds of prey demonstrations, and Native American dancers appear alongside the more conventional beer gardens and live music stages

02

The mystery stays covered

Free admission across all three days, paired with a shuttle from downtown parking, has kept the event accessible even as it has grown into one of the region's largest Memorial Day gatherings
