The story

GlassFest in Corning

GlassFest fills historic Market Street in Corning's Gaffer District with a three-day celebration of glass art, craft and music each Memorial Day weekend. Now in its late teens as an annual event, the festival centers on the Corning Museum of Glass, home to more than 50,000 glass objects, and includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live glassblowing demonstrations.

Its place-based glass identity makes it a strong guidebook row.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Corning has built its identity around glass since Corning Glass Works founded the Corning Museum of Glass in 1951, and GlassFest leans directly into that legacy, centering festival programming on the museum's Amphitheater Hot Shop, where visitors watch live glassmaking demonstrations alongside musical entertainment

02

The mystery stays covered

Market Street's galleries, shops and restaurants throughout the Gaffer District participate directly in the festival, and the museum's own scale, a collection exceeding 50,000 glass objects with some pieces more than 3,500 years old, following a 64 million dollar expansion in 2014 that tripled its Contemporary Glass Gallery, gives the festival a genuinely world-class institutional anchor unusual for a small-city street festival
