Dover Days Festival in Dover
Dover Days Festival has celebrated Delaware's capital each spring since 1933, when preservationist Mabel Lloyd Ridgely founded it as Old Dover Days. The first-weekend-of-May event centers on a Saturday parade and colonial-era Maypole dancing by local schoolchildren, alongside historical reenactments and an artisan craft village on Dover's historic Green.
Mabel Lloyd Ridgely was already one of Delaware's most consequential preservationists by 1933.
