Augusta Festival in Elkins
The Augusta Festival caps five weeks of traditional music and craft workshops at the Augusta Heritage Center on the Davis and Elkins College campus each August. The weekend brings together Appalachian old-time, blues, Cajun, Irish, and bluegrass traditions through concerts, dances, and a juried craft fair, showcasing both visiting master artists and the students who studied under them that summer.
The Augusta Festival grew directly out of the Augusta Heritage Center, founded at Davis and Elkins College to document and teach traditional folk arts at a time when many Appalachian musical and craft traditions faced a shrinking base of practitioners.
