Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration in Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration marks its 30th anniversary with a month-long program of storytelling, foodways, art, music, and sweetgrass basket traditions rooted in Gullah Geechee heritage. A full-scale village built for the festival includes a schoolhouse, a praise house, a family home, and a shrimp boat dock, all brought to life by costumed interpreters.
You walk into the celebration with marsh light on one side and voices on the other, and suddenly the island feels less like a resort and more like a front porch with a long memory.
