Okinawan Festival in Honolulu

The Okinawan Festival celebrates Uchinanchu, or Okinawan, culture in Hawaii each Labor Day weekend in September at the Hawaii Convention Center. Organized by the Hawaii United Okinawa Association, it brings together Okinawan food, music, martial arts, crafts, and genealogy resources built around the history of Okinawan immigration to Hawaii that began in 1900.

Okinawan immigration to Hawaii began on January 8, 1900, when twenty-six men became the first recorded arrivals from Okinawa on the islands, drawn by plantation labor recruitment at a time of hardship back home.
