AES 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis
A free civic parade through downtown Indianapolis on the Saturday before the Indy 500, organized by the nonprofit 500 Festival since 1957. Featuring all 33 Indy 500 drivers, floats, giant balloons, and marching bands, it draws more than 200,000 spectators. The parade has run continuously since its founding, pausing only briefly during the pandemic.
Indianapolis has closed its downtown streets for a Month of May parade every year since 1957, when the nonprofit 500 Festival organization was founded to build a full slate of civic events around the Indianapolis 500 beyond the race itself.
