Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis
An October film festival in Indianapolis run by the nonprofit Heartland Film, founded in 1991 with its first festival held in 1992. It screens feature-length narrative and documentary films, awarding a Grand Prize, Best Documentary, Best Short Film, and an Audience Choice Award. The festival remains distinct from its sister event, Indy Shorts, held each July.
Heartland Film was founded in 1991 as a nonprofit organization built around the belief that film could genuinely inspire audiences, not merely entertain them, and it staged its first festival the following year in 1992.
