Iowa City Book Festival in Iowa City
Iowa City Book Festival is a week-long literary festival of author readings, panels, and events across downtown Iowa City and beyond, organized by Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature. Begun in 2008 as a thank-you to the community after volunteers saved library books from a catastrophic flood, it runs each October and draws authors from across the country.
Iowa City Book Festival began in 2008 under unusual circumstances: that spring, catastrophic flooding along the Iowa River threatened the University of Iowa Main Library's collections, and volunteers from across the community turned out to help move and protect books from the rising water.
