Plaza Art Fair in Kansas City
The Plaza Art Fair is a juried fine arts festival held every September on Kansas City's Country Club Plaza. Started in 1932 as a Depression-era promotion to draw shoppers to the shopping district, it has grown into a nine-city-block event featuring roughly 240 artists, three live music stages, and dozens of restaurant booths, drawing crowds estimated at over 250,000 visitors each year.
The Plaza Art Fair began not as an art institution's initiative but as a retail marketing idea during the depths of the Great Depression.
