Washington's Birthday Celebration in Laredo
Washington's Birthday Celebration in Laredo is a nearly month-long festival running from mid-January through late February, first staged in 1898 and now in its 129th year, billed as the largest celebration of George Washington's birthday in the United States. Roughly 28 events, including a Colonial Pageant, two parades, an air show, and a jalapeno-eating contest, draw an estimated 400,000 attendees.
Its unusual George Washington theme and border-city scale make it a distinctive Texas event.
