West Virginia Renaissance Festival in Lewisburg
The West Virginia Renaissance Festival occupies the fictional village of Essex at Hollow Hills Farm near Lewisburg. The grand joust is the principal spectacle, while roving characters, stage acts, artisan booths and demonstrations create encounters between scheduled performances. The recurring practices—grand joust, roving Elizabethan and fantasy characters, and artisan demonstrations and themed weekends—tie the public program to the place and the people who sustain it.
Bagpipes announce another entrance into Essex as a mounted knight lowers a lance and artisans continue carving, stitching and hammering around the village.
