Nisei Week Japanese Festival in Los Angeles
Nisei Week is a nine-day festival in Los Angeles's Little Tokyo that has celebrated Japanese American culture and history since 1934, making it one of the country's longest-running ethnic festivals. Named for the Nisei, the American-born children of Japanese immigrants, it fills mid-August with parades, taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, and a coronation pageant across the historic downtown Los Angeles neighborhood.
Its history and community role make it a core California heritage event.
