TARFEST in Los Angeles
TARFEST is a free, day-long music and arts festival that Los Angeles nonprofit LAUNCH LA has staged annually since 2003, most often at La Brea Tar Pits Park in the Miracle Mile district, with some recent editions relocating to nearby Pan Pacific Park. Its 2026 edition is billed as Beacon 250, tied to America's 250th anniversary commemorations.
In the middle of Los Angeles' Miracle Mile district sits one of the city's strangest landmarks: the La Brea Tar Pits, an active Ice Age fossil site where asphalt still seeps up through the ground more than ten thousand years after mammoths and saber-toothed cats became trapped in it.
