Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison
Held each spring across multiple venues in Madison, Wisconsin, including the historic Barrymore Theatre, the Wisconsin Film Festival screens several hundred films spanning international cinema, documentaries and shorts over roughly a week. Organized in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison's film studies community, it has grown into one of the larger university-affiliated film festivals in the American Midwest.
Madison's identity as a college town with a serious film culture predates its dedicated festival by decades, University of Wisconsin-Madison has long maintained one of the more respected film studies programs in the United States, and the city's independent theaters built a loyal audience for art-house and international cinema well before a formal festival existed.
