The story

Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire runs for thirteen weekends from early August through late October on the grounds of Mount Hope Estate and Winery in Manheim, Pennsylvania. What began in 1980 as a two-day jousting event in the winery's parking lot has grown into a recreated sixteenth-century English Tudor village spread across roughly thirty-five acres, with a dozen stages, Shakespearean performances, and hundreds of costumed characters.

Its village setting, themed weekends, and long season make it a core PA arts row.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few American Renaissance fairs run as long each year: thirteen consecutive weekends from summer into autumn gives the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire one of the longest seasons in the country, allowing it to build an unusually elaborate permanent Tudor-village set rather than a temporary fairground

02

The mystery stays covered

Its own working brewery, Swashbuckler Brewing Company, founded on the estate grounds in 2000, pours beer at a dedicated Swashbuckler Brew Pub, an amenity most touring or seasonal fairs cannot support

03

The city starts moving

With around ninety shows running daily across a dozen stages and twenty-three themed food and drink kitchens, the density of simultaneous entertainment rivals the country's largest fairs, and the faire's music and storytelling programming has drawn recognition from state conservation authorities and regional performance venues
