Nanticoke Indian Powwow in Millsboro

The Nanticoke Indian Powwow is the annual public gathering of the Nanticoke Indian Tribe, held the weekend after Labor Day at the tribe's powwow grounds in Millsboro, Delaware. Now in its fifth decade, it draws dancers and drum groups from tribes up and down the East Coast alongside roughly 30,000 visitors for regalia dancing, traditional foods, and Native-made crafts.

The Nanticoke people's documented history on the Delmarva Peninsula stretches back to first contact with English explorer Captain John Smith in 1608, when he mapped the Nanticoke, or Kuskarawaok, River during his survey of the Chesapeake Bay.
