Bastille Days in Milwaukee
Held each July in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin around Cathedral Square Park, Bastille Days is a free French-themed street festival marking Bastille Day with a giant Eiffel Tower replica, a waiters and waitresses relay race, French food and wine, and live music. Dating to the early 1980s, it differs from Milwaukee's other ethnic festivals by taking place downtown rather than at the lakefront festival park.
While most of Milwaukee's major ethnic summer festivals settled at Henry Maier Festival Park on the city's lakefront, Bastille Days took a different approach when it launched in the early 1980s, staging a free French-themed celebration directly in downtown Milwaukee around Cathedral Square Park and the surrounding East Town neighborhood.
