Art-A-Whirl in Minneapolis

Art-A-Whirl is the country's largest open artist studio tour, held every third weekend of May throughout the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Organized by the nonprofit Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) since 1996, it opens more than 1,600 member artists' studios, galleries, and creative businesses across 100-plus locations for a free, self-guided weekend of art, live demonstrations, and neighborhood restaurants and breweries.

Art-A-Whirl grew out of Northeast Minneapolis's identity as a working-class neighborhood full of old warehouses, factories, and industrial buildings that, by the 1990s, had quietly filled with artists looking for cheap studio space.
