Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival in Moorhead
The Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival, usually called the Scandinavian Festival, is an annual celebration of Nordic heritage held each June at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. Artists and vendors sell Scandinavian crafts and food on the museum grounds, home to a full-scale replica Viking ship and a replica Norwegian stave church, reflecting the deep Scandinavian settlement history of the Red River Valley. The 2026 festival was confirmed for June, continuing a tradition the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County has run for decades.
The Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival grew out of the Hjemkomst Center itself, a Moorhead, Minnesota museum that opened in 1985 to house one of the more remarkable objects in the upper Midwest: a full-scale, seaworthy replica of a Viking ship.
