Moscow Renaissance Fair in Moscow

Each May since 1974, East City Park in Moscow, Idaho hosts the Moscow Renaissance Fair, a free, community-run gathering built around a juried craft show, live regional music, and a parade led by a colorful dragon. Rather than a jousting-and-costume Ren-faire, it functions as a grassroots arts festival with a public Maypole Dance and locally crowned King and Queen of the Fair.

The Moscow Renaissance Fair began in 1974 in this small university town in the Palouse region of northern Idaho, and despite its name, it grew into something closer to a grassroots community arts festival than a traditional Renaissance faire built around jousting and costumed reenactment.
