Tennessee Williams and New Orleans Literary Festival in New Orleans
The Tennessee Williams and New Orleans Literary Festival is a five-day literary event held each spring in the French Quarter, now in its fifth decade. It combines panels, readings, and performances honoring the playwright's connection to the city, and shares its weekend with the co-hosted Saints and Sinners LGBTQ Literary Festival.
Tennessee Williams did not simply visit New Orleans; he lived in the French Quarter, wrote there, and drew the atmosphere of its narrow streets and close-quarters courtyards directly into his most famous play, A Streetcar Named Desire, whose title itself references an actual New Orleans streetcar line.
