The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade through Manhattan presented by the Macy's department store chain, first held in 1924. Billed as the world's largest parade, it runs from roughly 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day, moving from the Upper West Side past Columbus Circle to Macy's Herald Square, featuring giant character balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands, Broadway performances, and a closing appearance by Santa Claus.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924, when employees of the Macy's department store, many of them European immigrants, marched to the company's flagship store at Herald Square in costumes, accompanied by floats, professional bands, and live animals borrowed from the Central Park Zoo.
