The deadCenter Film Festival is a five-day independent film festival held each June in Oklahoma City, founded in 2001 and named for the city's location near the geographic center of the continental United States. It screens over a hundred films and has been recognized as one of the coolest film festivals in the country.
Oklahoma City sits almost exactly at the geographic center of the continental United States, a fact of cartography that most cities would treat as trivia but that Oklahoma City turned into the name and identity of one of its most distinctive cultural institutions.
