Portland Polish Festival in Portland
North Portland's Polish Hall neighborhood hosts the oldest Polish festival in the western United States each September, a two-day celebration of food, polka, and folk dance rooted in a Polish immigrant community that has lived around N. Interstate Avenue since the 1890s. Visitors eat pierogi and kielbasa, watch polka contests, and take in Oregon's Polish history at St. Stanislaus Church, the state's only Polish Catholic parish.
Oregon's Polish community is older than most visitors to the festival probably assume.
