Viking Fest in Poulsbo

Every May, Poulsbo, Washington, known as Little Norway on the Fjord, marks Norway's Constitution Day with Viking Fest, a three-day heritage celebration begun in 1969. Streets fill with a costumed Viking landing, a grand parade, folk dancing and craft booths as the town, founded by Norwegian immigrants, reconnects with its Scandinavian roots through food, music and community pageantry along Liberty Bay.

Poulsbo sits on Liberty Bay, a narrow inlet of Puget Sound whose steep, forested shoreline reminded nineteenth-century Norwegian immigrants of the fjords they had left behind.
