Providence Greek Festival in Providence
The Providence Greek Festival is an annual community festival held at a Greek Orthodox church in the Providence, Rhode Island area, generally understood to feature traditional Greek food, live music, and folk dancing as a fundraiser and cultural celebration for the local Greek-American community.
Greek immigrant communities established Orthodox parishes in cities across the United States beginning in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and those churches became not only centers of religious life but also anchors of cultural continuity, teaching younger generations traditional Greek dance, music, and language alongside religious education.
