Central States Fair in Rapid City
The Central States Fair fills Rapid City's fairgrounds every August with free carnival entertainment, open-class competitions in home arts and crafts, cattle and horse shows, and nine nights of grandstand entertainment ranging from live concerts to PRCA Range Days Rodeo and X-Broncs bronc riding finals.
The Central States Fair has served as Rapid City's summer counterpart to its larger winter sibling, the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, since both events are produced by the same organization: Central States Fair Inc., a nonprofit, member-driven group governed by a 14-member volunteer board of directors elected each March by fair membership to four-year terms.
