Haight-Ashbury Street Fair in San Francisco
First held on April 29, 1978, to mark the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood's recovery from a difficult post-Summer-of-Love decade, this volunteer-run, nonprofit street fair now takes place every second Sunday of June. It celebrates the neighborhood's countercultural roots through live music, local art vendors, and community organizing along Haight Street.
Its district identity gives it stronger cultural value than a generic street fair.
