Virginia Renaissance Faire in Spotsylvania
The Virginia Renaissance Faire runs five spring weekends, from early May through early June, at Lake Anna Winery in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Now past its twentieth season, the faire offers living-history demonstrations of jousting, archery, and blacksmithing, royal court performances, and Renaissance-themed food and activities for families.
Renaissance faires as a format emerged in the United States in the mid-twentieth century, growing out of a broader interest in living-history reenactment and theatrical recreations of European Renaissance-era life, market fairs, jousting tournaments, and court pageantry staged for public audiences rather than scholarly study alone.
