Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield
The Ozark Empire Fair is a large county-style fair held each summer at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri, typically running from late July into early August. Organized by the nonprofit Greene County Agricultural and Mechanical Society since the 1930s, it combines a livestock and agricultural exhibition, a carnival midway, a grandstand concert series, and fair food, drawing crowds from across southwest Missouri.
The Ozark Empire Fair began in the early twentieth century not as a fixed event but as a traveling exhibition of regional crafts and handwork, moving between locations within Springfield's city limits before local businessmen, led by Louis Reps, organized in the early 1930s to secure a permanent home.
