Stanford Powwow in Stanford
Held each Mother's Day weekend on Stanford University's campus, the Stanford Powwow is one of the largest student-organized powwows in the country. Run by the Stanford American Indian Organization since 1971, it gathers Native dancers, drum groups, and vendors from across North America for competitive dancing, an arts market, and a grand entry that opens each day of the three-day gathering.
Its long-running identity and intertribal programming make it an important cultural event.
