The story

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in Tampa

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts is a free, juried outdoor fine art show held each late winter in Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park along the Hillsborough River in Tampa. Now in its sixth decade, the event brings more than 250 painters, sculptors, and craftspeople to the riverfront for a weekend of gallery-quality art, live music, and family activities, backed by title sponsor Raymond James.

Its long history and downtown setting make it a core Tampa arts event.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts is easy to confuse with the pirate-themed Gasparilla Pirate Festival, but the two are run by entirely separate organizations: this event, produced by Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, Inc

02

The mystery stays covered

, is a juried visual-art show rather than a parade or ship invasion, though it borrows Tampa's Gasparilla pirate branding and historically shares the same winter season

03

The city starts moving

What distinguishes it is its jury standard and longevity, now in its sixth decade as one of the top-ranked outdoor art shows in the country, alongside a genuine investment in emerging talent through its Collegiate Scholarship, Emerging Artists, and Local Artist Spotlight programs, plus a rotating community mural commission, such as a 2024 piece by artist Nneka Jones, that leaves a lasting mark on Tampa beyond festival weekend
