Taos Pueblo Pow Wow in Taos
The Taos Pueblo Pow Wow is an annual multi-tribal gathering hosted by Taos Pueblo, a living Native American community and UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern New Mexico. Held in July at the Buffalo Pasture grounds outside the historic village, it brings dancers, drum groups, and vendors from many nations together for competitive dancing, singing, food, and arts and crafts, with free admission for all visitors.
Taos Pueblo has been continuously inhabited for roughly a thousand years, its multi-story adobe buildings rising at the base of Taos Mountain long before Spanish colonizers arrived in the sixteenth century and, by local account, mistook the mica-flecked mud plaster for gold.
