The Telluride Film Festival is a prestigious film showcase held every Labor Day weekend in Telluride, Colorado, first staged in August 1974 at the Sheridan Opera House. Founded by Bill and Stella Pence, Tom Luddy, and James Card, and operated by the National Film Preserve, it reaches its 53rd edition in 2026.

In August 1974, a small group of film enthusiasts, Bill and Stella Pence, Tom Luddy, and James Card of the Eastman-Kodak Film Preserve, staged a film festival in the Sheridan Opera House in Telluride, a former mining town turned ski destination tucked into a box canyon in southwestern Colorado.
