Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in Tucson

Founded in 1955 by two couples in a Tucson elementary school cafeteria, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show has grown into an internationally recognized showcase drawing exhibits from institutions such as the Smithsonian and Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Held every February at the Tucson Convention Center, it now anchors a citywide collection of roughly 50 gem shows drawing more than 65,000 visitors.

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show began in the most modest of settings: in 1955, two couples, Dan and Betty Caudle and Clayton and Betty Gibson, organized the first show in the cafeteria of Helen Keeling Elementary School.
