Virginia Beach Neptune Festival in Virginia Beach

The Virginia Beach Neptune Festival has celebrated the city's beach life since 1974 with more than 40 events spread across late September and October. Its centerpiece is the Neptune's International Sandsculpting Championship, where sculptors from a dozen countries compete on the sand near the 34-foot bronze King Neptune statue that anchors the boardwalk at 31st Street.

The Neptune Festival began in 1974 as a way for Virginia Beach to extend its identity as a beach destination beyond the traditional summer season, giving the city a reason to draw visitors back to the oceanfront once Labor Day crowds had thinned.
