The story

Wilmington Greek Festival in Wilmington

The Wilmington Greek Festival fills the grounds of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral for six days each June, offering Greek food, live music, and folk dancing from Delaware's only Greek Orthodox cathedral community. Running since roughly the mid-1970s, it is billed as the largest Greek festival in the Mid-Atlantic region and the only one in Delaware.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral has served as the anchor of Wilmington's Greek community since the parish was established in 1934, and for roughly half a century it has extended that role each June through a week-long public festival on its own grounds.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival pairs its food and music with genuine parish access rarely offered at ethnic festivals: church tours run throughout the week specifically to explain Orthodox Christian worship and the cathedral's architecture to visitors, alongside outdoor food booths serving souvlaki, gyros, kalamari, pastichio, moussaka, dolmades, and spanakopita

02

The mystery stays covered

The Terpsichorean Youth Folk Dance group performs traditional Greek dances every evening starting around six o'clock, beginning with its youngest dancers and working up through older age groups, a structured intergenerational program built specifically for the festival rather than a one-off performance

03

The city starts moving

Indoor dining in the church's Community Center and a balcony reserved for Greek pastries and cookies give visitors a quieter, more traditional alternative to the outdoor food booths and bars
