Llamadas de Durazno in Durazno
Llamadas de Durazno is the candombe drumming procession of Durazno, a departmental capital in central Uruguay where the Afrocan group has led local development of the tamboril tradition and was formally recognized by the Intendencia de Durazno as an Institucion de Interes Cultural in 2006.
Candombe is one of Uruguay's most distinctive cultural exports, a drumming and dance tradition rooted in the practices of enslaved and free Afro-Uruguayan communities that developed in Montevideo's historic neighborhoods and later spread to departmental cities across the country.
