Carnaval de las Promesas in Montevideo

Carnaval de las Promesas is Montevideo's Carnival competition for children and adolescents, staged at the open-air Teatro de Verano Ramon Collazo each December and January. Youth murga groups perform the same satirical, sung theater format as the adult competition, and the event has become the visible starting point for many performers who later join Uruguay's main Carnival circuit.
