Festival Internacional de Cine del Uruguay in Montevideo

The Festival Cinematografico Internacional del Uruguay, known as FCIU, is Montevideo's major international film festival, organized by the nonprofit archive Cinemateca Uruguaya since 1982. Its 43rd edition ran from April 8 to 20, 2025, screening international competition films with awards presented at the historic Sala Zitarrosa concert hall in the city center.

In 1952, two Montevideo film clubs, Cine Universitario and Cine Club del Uruguay, merged their efforts to found Cinemateca Uruguaya, a nonprofit archive dedicated to preserving film culture in a country with no major domestic film industry of its own.
