Stihia Cotton Rave Stage in Muynak/Aral Sea
Cotton Rave is a named electronic music stage within Stihia, Uzbekistan's electronic music, arts and science festival staged on the dried former Aral Sea bed near Muynak's ship graveyard, featuring local and international DJs blending techno, house, bass and Karakalpak folk-sample influences rather than functioning as a fully separate standalone festival in its own right.
Stihia began in 2017 in the small Karakalpakstan town of Muynak, conceived specifically to draw attention to the environmental catastrophe of the Aral Sea, once the world's fourth-largest saline lake before Soviet-era irrigation diversions caused it to shrink drastically, leaving behind the rusting ship graveyard that now defines Muynak's landscape.
