Maskelyne Canoe Race and Arts Festival in Maskelyne Islands/Malekula
The Maskelyne Canoe Race and Arts Festival is a two-day gathering held in the Maskelyne Islands, a small archipelago of reef-fringed islets off southeast Malekula in Vanuatu. Villagers open the event with a canoe parade displaying locally carved outrigger canoes, then run four rounds of racing for men, women, and children, alongside kastom dances, feasting, and craft demonstrations.
Off the southeastern tip of Malekula, Vanuatu's second-largest island, lies a scatter of low coral islets known as the Maskelynes.
