Carnaval de Barquisimeto is a family carnival tradition in the western Venezuelan city of Barquisimeto, Lara state, celebrated for more than a century since its origins in the historic center and now centered on the city's Obelisco landmark, with parades, concerts and competitions organized as the International Carnivals of Barquisimeto since the year 2000.
Barquisimeto's carnival has been documented as a family tradition for more than a century, tracing back to the late nineteenth century when the city, known as Venezuela's twilight and musical city, celebrated with considerable pomp.
